Miryom Levi

Miryom Levi aka Marion Willis migrated to Guyana, South America in 1978 from New York, U.S.A. with her family.  She continued her work within the Hebrew Israelite Alternative School initiative as an educator. The school offered a Phonetic Reading Program, a Hebrew Language course along with English, Math, Art, History and Science.  Miryom was granted permanent residency upon entry under the Forbes L. Burnham administration, which welcomed her group in 1977 to pursue their way of life. Unfortunately, when her son became ill, Miryom returned to the US to undergo surgery under doctors’ recommendation.  His little body required a long recovery period.  During that time Miryom enrolled back in University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in English and ultimately a Master of Arts in Organizational Management.  She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the J. P. Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank which turned into 7 years and thereafter testing for various positions as Supervisor/Manager at Fair Hearing and Conciliation Division of the Office of Human Resources Administration, New York.

Miryom returned to her beloved Guyana permanently in 2009, receiving her citizenship.  The eldest of two daughters was teaching at the Guyana International Academy.  The youngest was employed for three years as Operational Manager at Channel 9, before returning to America where she completed her studies in Film and Communications at the University of North Carolina.

Miryom tried her hand at entrepreneurial pursuits and offered lectures in Organizational Management at her organization, The Hebrew Family of Guyana, managing summer school programs and special events.  Nearly eight years later, in 2017 she answered the call to attend a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the resuscitation of the 10 year International Decade for People of African Descent Program. Miryom had discovered her niche: opportunities to work with motivational leadership dedicated to serving the great people of African Descent, Guyana.

Honored to share her activist spirit, she accepted this meaningful challenge.  IDPADAG’s work plans and accomplishments continue to benefit PAD and ultimately the growth and development of the entire nation.
